CD Case Desk Calendar

One of my readers asked me the other day if I had a a clue how to make a CD Case Desk (or easel) Calendar.  I responded immediately that “yes”, I knew how to make one.  I just hadn’t done so for a long time.  Today I’m going to take you through the steps to make one and below have printable available for sale.

Here’s what you need:

  • an empty clear CD case
  • a paper trimmer
  • stamps (or stickers or whatever–I use stamps of course)
  • ink pads
  • a printed monthly calendar approximately 3″ x 4″ with margins on all sides
  • coordinating card stock

First the CD case:

Then choose your stamp set.  For this September 2017 page I chose the new Painted Harvest stamp set with beautiful autumn sunflowers in my mind.

The CD case desk calendar page is cut out to 4-1/2″ x 5-1/4″ and is matted on a piece of Crumb Cake card stock that is 4-11/16″ x 5-7/16″.  You might have to adjust your layers to fit your CD Case.

Painted Harvest is a two-step set which means the sunflower and the leaves are each stamped twice, in different colors, to achieve an image with greater depth.  First I stamped the larger sunflower image using Crushed Curry classic ink and then, over that, I stamped the smaller sunflower image using Pumpkin Pie classic ink.  I used Soft Suede Classic Ink for the center image for the sunflower.

Now to the leaves:  I stamped the larger flower image on a piece of scrap paper and cut it out.  Then I layered it over the finished sunflower and placed the leaves where I wanted them to be.  Leaves are Wild Wasabi Classic Ink for the more solid image and Garden Green Classic Ink for the veins image.

Remove the mask and……..ta dah…..the leaves are ‘behind’ the sunflower.  Move the mask to another sunflower and repeat the process.

Move the mask to another sunflower and repeat the process.  Do you see how the leaves appear to be behind the first flower?

Here’s a close up of the sunflowers:

The stamps have little tiny squares in the images that create shadows/shading in the images.

Layer the stamped images onto a piece of Crumb Cake card stock using Snail Adhesive and insert into the CD case creating your CD Case Desk Calendar.  Pretty easy to make and very easy to look at!  Create all 12 months for your case, tie it with a ribbon and you’ve created a great gift for a special someone.
