ON April 25th I attended an online retreat presented by the Creativate Team, five Stampin’ Up! demonstrators located around the U.S. The retreat was held on FaceBook Live and it was amazing. More about the retreat and team at the end of this post.
When it came time to make my daughter’s Mother’s Day card yesterday, I decided that I would adapt one of the fun projects we made at the retreat. This card, made during the retreat time, was based on creating my own Designer Series Paper.
I took this fun fold design and used it for yesterday’s Mother’s Day (or any event you need at the moment) card:
Following are the products I used for today’s card:

HOW TO PUT IT ALL TOGETHER + TIPS:
Supplies:
- Stamps, card stock, stampin’ pads, various accessories……please see above (with links to my Stampin’ Up! online store.
Cutting Instructions:
- Calypso Coral: 8-1/2″ x 11″, cut to 5-1/2″ x 11″ and scored at 1-1/2″, 4″, and 6-3/4″
- Cut the remaining 3″ x 11″ strip to 2″ x 11″ and hold on to the remaining 1″ x 11″ strip
- Trim the 1″ x 11″ piece to 9-1/2″ (belly band)
- Cut the remaining 3″ x 11″ strip to 2″ x 11″ and hold on to the remaining 1″ x 11″ strip
- Follow Your Art DSP: 3 pcs: 1-1/4″ x 5-1/4″; 1 pc: 2-1/4″ x 5-1/4″; and 1 pc: 2-1/2″ x 5-1/4″
- Whisper White: 2-5/8″ x 5-1/4″ and three scraps for sentiments
- Ribbon: 12″
Instructions/How To:
- Stamp your sentiment on a scrap of Whisper White card stock and punch with your favorite punch. I used the Timeless Label punch.
- Punch a second piece using Coastal Cabana card stock. Using Paper Snips or your Paper Trimmer, cut this piece in half lengthwise. Using the adhesive of your choice (I used Tombow Multipurpose Liquid Glue) place each ‘half piece’ behind the stamped image so it just peeks up from behind making a border layer.
- Set aside for now.
- “Accordion fold” the Calypso Coral card stock. It’s easiest if you fold the smaller 1-1/4″ flap over the next segment creating a ‘valley fold’. Then continue with the accordion folding.
- Adhere 1-1/4″ x 5-1/4″ strip of DSP to both sides of this flap.
- Attach the remaining strips as follows: 2-1/4″ strip to the 2-1/2″ panel, 2-1/2″ strip to the 2-3/4″ panel and the remaining 1-1/4″ strip to the right side of the 4-1/4″ panel.
- The 2-5/8″ Whisper White panel is for your message. I chose to use a sponge brayer to first color this panel…….Coastal Cabana at the bottom, moving up toward the middle. Then I switched to Pacific Point classic ink, gently blending it into the Coastal Cabana area.
- Die cut an oval from another Whisper White scrap and, again using the rubber brayer, color it using Crushed Curry classic ink.
- Using Tuxedo Black Memento Ink, stamp the image in the middle of the sponged oval. Stamp a few tips of the “weeds/grass/flowers” image on the left and right side of the silhouette image. Attach to the brayered panel using four Dimensionals.
- Stamp the smaller sentiment, again using Tuxedo Black Memento Ink on a final scrap of Whisper White card stock and, using the Big Shot or other die cutting machine*, die cut the sentiment with the appropriately sized Stitched Nested Labels die. Apply adhesive to the back and slip it under the dimensional-ized (my word) image.
Time for the belly band:
- Wrap the 1″ x 9-1/2″ piece of Calypso Coral card stock around the closed card by bringing the two ends together in the front center. Do not pull mega-tight………leave a little bit of wiggle room. Crease with Bone Folder.
- Adhere the label sentiment to the front of the belly band.
- Attach a ribbon to the left of the sentiment using a Mini Glue Dot. I colored my 12″ piece of Crinkled Seam Binding Ribbon using a Crushed Curry Stampin’ Marker. What a great way to get died-to-match-your-project ribbon! The ink dries almost instantly. You can use either Stampin’ Markers or Stampin’ Blends Markers to achieve a multitude of colors.
I think this card is a lot less work than it looks like. It’s the folds that make it such a WOW!
* Big Shot or other die cutting machine???? Stampin’ Up will be announcing their own new die cutting machine in the 2020-2021 Annual Catalog that goes live on June 3rd. But—-it won’t be available on June 3rd due to interference by the current pandemic we’re all experiencing. I just want you to know it’s coming and it’s awesome. Yes, I’ve seen a sneak peak. No, I haven’t touched it.
The Creativate Retreat that I mentioned at the beginning of this post??? The Creativate Team, consisting of Brandy Cox, Connie Stewart, Jackie Bolhuis, Lisa Curcio and Sharon Armstrong, will be hosting another all day retreat on July 11th. Cost will most likely be $45, same as the April retreat (which was a first time effort). I will post here on my blog when the July Retreat is available for sign ups. For April’s retreat, the first on-the-hour “class” was at 8 a.m. MT. And the last Mystery Class was at 9 P.M., MT. It was a full well-organized day of stamping and learning. I’m not sure where I first heard about it but I’m so very glad I attended. There were participants from many time zones around the world. Once you’re signed up you can watch it, via video, at your convenience. There were nearly 800 attendees for this first effort!!
If you don’t have a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator to call your own and would like a hard copy of the new annual catalog that goes live on June 3rd, send me an email (blythe@stampingwithblythe.com) with your mailing address (and name of course) and I’ll send you one just as soon as my supply arrives. The only thing I ask of you is that you use the new catalog discount coupon that will be inside, along with a wish list, and place an order through me, hopefully as your new demonstrator.
Will you be placing an online order today? If so, please use the monthly hostess code when prompted at checkout to earn free products from me at the end of the month. If your order is $150 or more, no need to add the code—you will earn your own hostess rewards by just following the prompts on the ordering page! Thank you so much for supporting this small business owner.
