Using Scraps Wisely

Or “having fun with scraps”! Do you ever use your card stock scraps? Do you ever even think about using them? Well….I’m participating in an online creative retreat in a few weeks and attendees have been teased with a pre-retreat challenge: a card scrap challenge.

I think I used my scraps quite wisely. Since I already had an 8-1/2″ x 11″ fresh piece of card stock I was ready to go — using only remnants from previous stamping adventures. A few card bases were already cut and scored in my scrap ‘bag’. Here’s my card:

Using your scraps efficiently
Can you even tell the piece are ‘scraps’?

How’d I Do This?

First I pulled out a few supplies:

Prepare Your Paper Supplies:

  • CARD BASE: Basic White Thick card stock: 8-1/2″ x 5-1/2″, scored at 4-1/4″
  • LAYER #1: Basic White card stock: 5-1/4″ x 4″ (for securing scrap strips)
  • SCRAP STRIPS: 4″ x 3/4″ – 3 pieces Basic Black, 2 pieces Basic White, 2 pieces Daffodil Delight
  • LAYER FOR STAMPING GREETING: Basic White: 3-3/4″ x 2-1/4″
  • BASE LAYER FOR STAMPED LAYER: Basic Black: 3-7/8″ x 2-3/8″

Putting the Pieces Together

1- Add the strips of card stock to the 5-1/4″ x 4″ piece of Basic White card stock and add this layer to the card front (using adhesive of course!)

2- Stamp the sentiment on the 3-3/4″ x 2-1/4″ piece of card stock following the sample. Then attach this layer to the Basic Black 3-7/8″ x 2-3/8″ card stock.

3- Using some Basic White scraps, stamp the bee and wings using Daffodil Delight ink and Memento Black ink. Punch these pieces with the Bee Punch. Be careful where you place the images on the scraps so you don’t destroy them with the punch! Perhaps start by punching them one at a time…..punch…..stamp another…..punch…..until you are sure of the spacing.

4- Stamp the Memento Black stripes of the bee first and then stamp the Daffodil Delight bee’s body. Ink up the stamp for the wings and first stamp on scratch paper (stamp a layer of the ink “off”) and then on your card stock that you’ll be punching out. Then stamp the wing outlines using the Memento Black ink.

5- Stamp with dashed line using Memento Black ink before placing the bee on the card front layer—using Dimensionals.

Gotta Have a Bit of Bling

Finally I added just a wee bit of bling from the Adhesive Sparkle Gems pack. They can be found in the 2023-2024 Annual Catalog.

Slightly different subject but still stamping related: As hard and as many times as I’ve tried, I cannot get the current January-February 2024 Sale-a-Bration brochure to upload to my sidebar. So, if you’d like to check it out, please click here! For every $50 you spend shopping via my Stampin’ Up! store (website) you can select a FREE item from this Sale-a-Bration brochure during January and February. Don’t miss out on these freebies!

Thank you so much for popping in today. Please leave a comment below if you’re looking for a specific project or technique. And don’t forget to make a card and then make someone’s day by sending it to them.
