I’ve played with Texas demonstrator Sharon Armstrong and her Monday Mystery Stamping (MMS) for several years now and it’s definitely stamping “blind”. She offers card measurements, maybe (or maybe not) color suggestions and step by step “how-to” instructions.
The other night’s MMS found me in a courageous mood and I took the suggestion of another stamper to create a card using the following three colors: Cherry Cobbler, Misty Moonlight and Wild Wheat.
Product ListI had no idea what kind of card I was going to be making except that I was going to use these three colors.
Our first step was to cover a 5″ x 3-3/4″ and a 2-3/4″ x 2-3/4″ piece of Basic White card stock using these colors. The recommendation was to use a bolder stamp set—one that didn’t include a lot of smaller images. After some consideration I chose to use the Artistically Inked cling stamp set.
Product ListThis stamp set is made up of ‘distinctive images‘: there are various shadings and intensity in each image creating light and dark prints. I was stunned when I saw how well these colors complimented each other. I was definitely not convinced before I started this random stamping! I didn’t take step-by-step photos but here is my finished card:
I usually make two cards when doing Mystery Stamping. On the card below I forgot to place the Cherry Cobbler layer behind (under) my stamped layer. The only work-around I could come up with, without destroying the card by trying to ‘unglue’ it, was to add the dots and dashes around the stamped layer. The look isn’t perfect but it’s definitely better than left blank.
Basic Measurements
- Card Front: Basic White: 8-1/2″ x 4-1/4″, scored at 5-1/2″
- Matting Layers: 5-1/4″ x 4″, 3″ square, 2-3/4″ x 1-1/2″
- Stamped Layers: Basic White: 5″ x 3-3/4″, 2-3/4″ square, 2-1/2″ x 1-1/4

Product ListAgain, I was stunned at how well those three colors worked together. Yes, the card is a bit busy but…….I like it. If you try this color combo or any other one, using this card layout, please share it with me and us. Was it “Mikey” who said (years ago): “Try it, you’ll like it!”
Reality check: Because the paragraph below has been somewhat pre-written, I can’t change or update it without mental grief. If it doesn’t post as I’ve updated it, I am going to be sending out our Christmas cards in the next few DAYS, not weeks. Technology!#$%*$%
Thank you so much for popping in today. Please leave a comment below if you’re looking for a specific project or technique. And don’t forget to make a card and then make someone’s day by sending it to them.
