Handmade Greeting Card Techniques for Every Occasion

Today I made a card using one of my favorite handmade greeting card techniques that I have used before for something FUN but it worked perfectly for this sympathy card.

Today I took the time to finish the sympathy card I was making for my cousin before I decided to drop everything and head to Ohio for the funeral of her husband of 51 years.  (Gosh we really, truly don’t seem old enough for that to be our reality!)

I must thank Amanda Bates of North Yorkshire UK for the idea and prototype.   When I first saw the card I knew I would c.a.s.e. it for my special sympathy card need.

Particulars about this card:

  • Whisper White Thick Cardstock: 8-1/2″ x 5-1/2″, scored at 4-1/4″, folded and burnished (rubbed over crease) with a Bone Folder.
  • Whisper White Cardstock:
    • inside: 4-1/4″ x 5-1/4″, stamp, using Pool Party Classic Ink and Watercolor Wash Background stamp; stamp greeting with Mint Macaron Classic Ink; score at 2-1/8″ after stamping; adhere to inside of card using Fast Fuse.
    • inside: 8-1/4″ x 5-1/4″.  Ink up the side of the Brick Embossing Folder where the ‘mortar lines’ are raised, using Crumb Cake classic ink.  Run through the Big Shot twice (once from each end) so that the entire piece of card stock is embossed.  Then score at 2″, 4″ and 6″ and fold ‘valley’, ‘mountain’, ‘valley’.  Stamp foliage using Mint Macaron classic ink, using second generation ink (do not reink stamp) several times.
    • outside: 4″ x 5-1/4″;  ink up the side of the Brick Embossing Folder where the ‘mortar lines’ are not raised, using Crumb Cake classic ink.  Run through the Big Shot.  Again, stamp foliage using Mint Macaron classic ink, using second generation ink (do not reink stamp) several times.  Also stamp greeting with same ink.
  • Vellum:  Stamp three dragonflies using Pool Party Classic Ink.  Immediately sprinkle two of them with Clear Embossing Powder and one with White Embossing Powder.  Set with Heat Tool.  Die cut using Big Shot and appropriately sized dragonfly outline thinlit.  When these are attached to the card, inside or outside, use Multipurpose Liquid Glue on the body only.

You can see how some handmade greeting card techniques LOOK complicated but when you go to make them it’s just a few simple steps and you get to look like a card making rock star.
