February’s Paper Pumpkin — I Did It

I must admit that I wasn’t ‘struck by lightening’ when I opened my February Paper Pumpkin kit.  I spent a few days just thinking about it and how I wanted to approach it.  Several elements just weren’t my style.  So I watched to see what alternatives others created and thought about what I could do to make my cards feel like ‘me’.  I ended up pretty much just using the existing supplies with very little added that wasn’t included in the kit.

The thing that made it fun was knowing that I honestly have places to send my cards made with all three represented languages: English, French and German.  Over the years we’ve hosted exchange students from Spain, Austria, France and Germany.  So….I knew exactly who I’d send the French and German cards to.  And then I hit the road running and finished all of my cards in about 45 minutes.

Thinking of you……jepense á toi…….ganz liebe grüße.  Two French cards will actually be sent to France for birthdays, to different families in the Normandy area.  The third will be sent to my daughter who teaches high school French in an International Baccalaureate school here in Boise.  And as for the German greetings, I wish there were more —- at least two more.  Our German ‘son’ was with us for 13 months and his family, in addition to Stephan himself, became members of our family.  No, Stephan won’t be receiving a bouquet on flowers on his birthday card.  His wife will though.  It’s kind of funny to say that the single greeting I have left at this point is ‘thinking of you’…..in English obviously.

I’m not really a lacy doily, especially gold, kind of person, so I obviously hid them behind my stamped layer. Three style options for this card: gold doily, flip it over to the white doily, or just a simple layered greeting with the Merry Merlot mat for the stamped greeting layer.

These three cards are pretty much straight out of the brochure that was included in the kit. They were the first three I made. I attached the vellum layer with the little glue dots (one in each corner hidden behind leaves) included in the kit.

The corner for the card on the left is one of the kit-provided-pieces of 1″ x 4-1/4″ pieces of printed card stock weight paper. I cut it into 1/4″ strips and carefully layered the ‘stripes’ onto the card front. Short little remnants worked as I got closer to the corner, needing only small pieces of the printed paper.  The die cut tag is another piece from the kit and it’s attached to the card using Dimensionals.  The greeting came from the Here’s a Card stamp set.

I’m pleased to say that I used almost all of the pieces included in February’s kit.  I have the untouched spool of Mossy Meadow twine and a sheet of Dimensionals left, as well as a few odds & ends.  Plus, of course, the stamp set.  Not bad.
