Year ‘Round Home Decor / Great Gift

A lovely neighbor, Laurette, brought her out-of-town-visiting daughter-in-law over to my house this past weekend to re-create a gift I’d been given several years ago at a Stampin’ Up! convention in Salt Lake City.

Convention Roomie Gift
Sue from Danville, IN (you saw Sue laughing with our other roommates in yesterday’s post) made this wonderful gift for all three of her roommates a few years ago.  There is a different image to ‘velcro’ over the letter ‘O’ for 9 seasons/events of the year.  They all store in a clear envelope on the back side of the frame.

Laurette saw this in my stamp room, ooooh-ed and ahhhh-ed over it and asked if she could make one with her daughter-in-law when she came to visit.  “Well of course” was my answer.

Here’s our ready-to-play/stamp table.  By the way, Lexi, the daughter-in-law had never stamped before and “wasn’t creative”.  She.  Did.  Great.

My stamp room is a hijacked bedroom in our house. The smaller spare room is now our ‘guest room’.  Their gold frames are on the left and a 5″ x 7″ sheet of In Good Taste Designer Series Paper is waiting on their grid paper, along with the various prepared parts and pieces for their projects.

Here are their seasonal images.  Take a good look and see how each gal put her own touch on her project.

Autumn
I made this for both Laurette and Lexi just now since we overlooked autumn when they were here.  (Too much chatting?)

Christmas Season

When we finished, Laurette said that there was something missing……..a birthday image.  So, I popped over to my Hey, Chick stamp box and found these two images, already finished.  They fit the bill perfectly.

Happy Birthday time!

All you need for this project is a 5″ x 7″ frame, a piece of Designer Series Paper that fits your theme as a quiet background, and then lots of dies and odd bits and pieces/scraps of card stock.

This would make a dynamite Christmas gift for a friend, parent, grown child, great neighbor.  It just takes a little time to gather the parts and put them together.

Start with your H O M E letters, die cut them using Basic Black card stock and glue them to the background paper of your choice.  Place that piece into your frame, under the glass.  Then attach one half of a velcro ‘pair’ on the glass, over the letter “O”.

Now you can create your different season oval pieces, attach the opposite velcro piece to the back and then place in a trimmed down clear cello bag.  Attach this bag to the back of the frame, using Tear & Tape, if it will fit, or keep it in a safe place nearby.  Seal the top of the bag with velcro.

I sure hope you try this project either by gathering with a few friends or just on your own.  There are no set rules.  Use up scraps of paper.  Use both old and new stamping supplies.  And relax and have fun.

I’m going to offer a class in very early December for local gals who’d like to make this as a Christmas gift.  My brain is whirring right now with the logistics.

My frame is 8-1/4″ x 6″ which is the size I would recommend.  As you can see from the photos, Laurette and Lexi used gold frames since both have gold accents in their homes, one here in Idaho and the other in California.

Enjoy.  And please let me know if you decide to make one of these great projects.  Send a photo and I’ll be sure to post it.  If you can attach your photo in a comment, go for it!
