Waste Not, Want Not…Save a Card

In yesterday’s blog post I spoke about the fun I had guiding a group of high school students in making Valentine cards.  As we picked up the supplies used for the project after class was dismissed, we came upon this reject:

Wanna be Valentine card, Sage IB School
One of the students rejected this ‘almost a card’ card.  The DSP (Designer Series Paper) strip had been wrapped around to the back side of the card.  I snipped it at the card opening so it would function as a card.  🙂

And today, I used it for a valentine, morphing a ‘reject’ into something pretty acceptable in a slightly humorous way.  I used only scraps and rejects from the class–except for the heart on the card front which I had created for an example of how to possibly layer those pieces.  Technically it really was left over from the class.

Card morphed from 'reject' into an 'OK' card
I decorated the card front, as well as the envelope upper left corner, with narrow scraps of the Designer Series Paper. You can see my workspace surrounding the card.

I added a few From my Heart Faceted Gems and a Real Red Double-Stitched Satin Ribbon bow plus the Heart Doily and punched out layer.

Not bad for a ‘reject’ I think.  And I feel better deciding to not toss the ‘card’.

If you purchased all or any parts of the From the Heart Suite and, ahem, haven’t used them yet, jump on it and create some cards today or tonight.  You’ll be so glad you did!  I made one this morning for my dear friend (Sherry) who has helped me both physically and psychologically get through this move from California to Idaho.  She made the same move in June so knows the angst I have been going through.  Her card focuses on the phrase BEING FRIENDS IS BETTER THAN EATING CANDY (but let’s do that too).  Actually we drink wine rather than eat candy but the sentiment is there!  I’m going to deliver her card this afternoon.

Next up will be taking time to play with some spring oriented stamp sets like Grace’s Garden, the Parisian Blossoms Suite and more of the Peaceful Poppies Suite, all from the Jan-June 2020 Mini Catalog. Please contact me, blythe@stampingwithblythe.com, if you’d like a copy of this catalog.  It’s chock full of fun and creative ideas for spring into early summer.  (And I say this in the dead of winter!!)  Mind you, you never have to purchase an entire suite of products.  Just select those that you’ll be most likely to use.  When you purchase certain items in ‘bundles’ you do receive a 10% discount.  Now……..go do some stamping.  As soon as I get my car smogged and deliver some valentine and birthday goodies, I plan on doing some more stamping.  It takes me to ‘another place’, away from the anxiety and frustration of settling into a new house.  And now I’m for sure taking a day off about every 4th or 5th day for my sanity and creativity.
