We have friends visiting for this Martin Luther King holiday weekend and fortunately the gals are crafters! Mom, Sarah, wanted to make a bookmark ‘windcatcher’ for a wind chime she has. The lower most piece of her chime, made from heavy paper, had succumbed to the elements and was gone and thus the wind chime wasn’t chiming very much. I directed her to my selection of Designer Series Papers, reminded her how the back of each pack told which colors coordinated with the paper and let her go to it. She chose the Cherry on Top Designer Series Paper Stack and Bermuda Bay card stock. Sarah also used a way-retired-eyelet and the retired Crop-a-dile. Some things you just never get rid of! When finished, she laminated the piece for strength, protection for the elements and a wee bit of weight.
Now, when Sarah gets home to the Santa Cruz mountains adjacent the Pacific Coast, she’ll be able to hear her favorite wind chime once again.
Her daughter Reese (10), wasn’t sure what she wanted to craft so she had a look around my stampin’ studio and found a Curvy Keepsake box display, one of which had a glimmery butterfly on top. That was her project. So I told Reese about our Designer Series Papers, that they have prints on both sides, and to select a smaller print for what she was planning to do. And then I showed her how to find the coordinating card stock colors.

Next we pulled out the Big Shot, Curvy Keepsakes Box Thinlits , cutting pads and magnetic platform, Butterflies Thinlits, Stampin’ Trimmer and the new Big Shot Die Brush. And the card stock (Mossy Meadow) and Glimmer Paper. Reese chose the Champagne Glimmer paper which is retired because it was a little ‘softer’ in color.
TIPS:
- When running the Butterflies Thinlit through the Big Shot using the Glimmer Paper, be sure to have the ‘glimmery side’ face down, placing the die on top of the backside (white-ish) of the Glimmer Paper. Run in through the die 2-3 times to be sure it’s fully cut.
- To remove all those tiny little pieces, lace the cut out die on the foam pad that comes with the Die Brush and gently roll the brush top to bottom and side to side. Those pieces just pop right out. Awesome.
- You’ll need two pieces of card stock, cut out, for the Curvy Keepsake Box and two pieces of the Designer Series Paper, also cut out. You will only need two cut off flaps of the printed paper. You can decide if you want them to both be the ‘handle’ pieces’ or the pieces with the slits. Attach them to the box with Liquid Multipurpose Glue so you’ll be able to move it around a teensy bit as necessary.
- Before securing your Curvy Keepsake Box use a Bone Folder or the edge of the table to curve the 4 sides of the box. It’s sort of like curling a piece of ribbon for a package only not quite so energetically! It helps the box to keep its shape.
- Snip the butterfly in half through its thorax and attach each half to the Curvy Box with tiny drops of Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive. That way you’ll be able to still open your box to put that diamond ring, bracelet or piece of chocolate inside.

I’ve had pages printed for my host families and would like to get them in the mail on Tuesday. I had to break down and purchase contraband from a Joann store to hold these 8″ x 8″ pages.
