Friendly Gnomes Birthday Card

Although this is a retired Stampin’ Up! set I couldn’t resist using Friendly Gnomes to create this light hearted birthday card. I guess this is a day for retired goodies since the Designer Series Paper (Dandy Designs) is also retired.

This is a quick and easy card to create and I hope you try it with one of your favorite current or retired stamp sets. Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Card Stock (Fresh Freesia): 4-1/4″ x 8″, scored at 5-1/2″
  • Card Stock (Fresh Freesia): 4-1/4″ x 3″ (this is the remnant from the card base if you cut a full piece of card stock in half to 4-1/4″ x 11″)
  • Basic White: 5-1/4″ x 4″ and 2-3/4″ x 4″
  • Designer Series Paper (Dandy Designs-retired): 4″ x 2-1/4″
  • Stamp Set (Friendly Gnomes)
  • Ink: Memento Black, Fresh Freesia Classic Ink
  • Markers: Daffodil Delight, Granny Apple Green
  • Stampin’ Blends: Fresh Freesia (light), Pool Party (light & dark), Crumb Cake (light), Soft Sea Foam (light), SU900 (it’s a skin tone blends)
  • Wink of Stella
  • Multipurpose Liquid Glue
  • Bone Folder

Putting It All Together

  • Use a Bone Folder (or the back of your thumb nail) to make a firm crease along the score line. TIP: “Squish the mountain!” – One side of the ‘scored line’ is a “valley” and the other side is a “mountain”. You want to fold away from the ‘valley’ and squish that ‘mountain’ for a fold that is gentle on the card stock fibers. Attach the DSP (Designer Series Paper) layer to the front side of this folded over section.
  • Using the 4″ x 5-1/4″ piece of Basic White card stock, stamp your desired images using Memento Black Ink. Wait a minute for it to dry and them color in your images. Attach this layer to the larger area of the card base.
  • Using the 4″ x 2-3/4″ piece of Basic White card stock, stamp the gnome of your choice near the bottom center of the piece, also using Memento Black Ink. Add a balloon if you’d like. Color these images. Then stamp your greeting in the upper left corner using Fresh Freesia Classic Ink. Attach this stamped layer to the 4-1/4″ x 3″ piece of Fresh Freesia card stock and then attach both pieces to the upper flap of the card using Liquid Glue (I call it ‘green glue’ because of the color of the container).
  • Add Wink of Stella to the gnome’s beard or the balloon.
