A Walk Down Memory Lane….Tick Tock

Do you remember when we stamped paper clock faces for plastic wall clocks?  This was like at least 15 years ago!  I still have three of those plastic clocks and I don’t remember where I got them.

All that said, I did some major rearranging in my stamping space during the last two days and my existing clock did not get moved to a new wall.  By choice.  After looking around for it, I would remember to turn my head and look behind me.  That inspired me to go out to my garage, find those three plastic clocks in a giant storage tub and stamp a fresh face for one of them.  I think I used the Franny Farmer Stampin’ Up! stamp set on one for the last ones I made years ago!

I’ve grown in my stamping visions and Stampin’ Up! has grown in their stamp set styles.  And this is my new clock:

I did a lot of thinking before I dove in to the process.  I definitely wanted a fresher look than those old ones.  After a lot of testing different Designer Series Papers (DSP) for the base, I finally chose a pattern from the In Good Taste DSP package.  (The paper I chose is in the second row, second from the left, very hard to visualize in the linked photo.)  It sort of looks like exterior stucco of a house.  I knew I wanted to use the Feels Like Home stamp set from the current Sale-a-Bration event.  (You can get it for FREE with a $50 order before September 30th.)

I stamped the main image using the Tuxedo Black Memento ink pad and then colored it in with various Stampin’ Blends and one of my Water Painter brushes and ink smeared in the lid of a Crumb Cake Classic Ink pad.

The clock hours/numbers were die cut using the (sadly) retired Playful Alphabet Dies, Basic Black card stock and  the Mini Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine.

The ‘hanging vines’ were stamped in 5 shades of green, Shaded Spruce, Garden Green, Old Olive, Soft Succulent and Evening Evergreen, using the little vine image from the same Feels Like Home stamp set.  I love the look they offer to the scene.

I tried hanging the clock to the upper right of my desk but……..the glare from the near by window told me “Move it.  NOW.”  So I did.

And now it’s hung right in front of my face above the left side of my desk:

This is obviously happening in real time!  Now I can easily see what time it is.  Yes, I could turn my head around OR I could glance at the time on my computer, but it’s much easier to lift my eyelids and see it, big and bold, on the wall in front of me.

I’m going to be enjoying this clock for a long time now.  I might even change up the image for winter/holidays once that time arrives.  In the meantime I’m very satisfied with the image I now see right before my eyes when I’m actually sitting at my desk.

  1. It’s perfect! Now I suppose I need to find a clock somewhere, as I plan on finally making my craft room into a true craft room instead of crafting out of boxes.

Oh, just one note… the Playful Alphabet dies are still current and on page 165 in the Annual Catalog. 🙂
