My friend Paula, from Mi Wuk Village, CA, the community we moved away from last December, asked me to make a special card for her soon-to-be-102 year old aunt. Auntie loves RED and HIGH HEELS. Unfortunately I couldn’t put my hands on my retired teenage/blow dryer/lipstick/funky shoes stamp set so had to settle for emphasizing red rather than high heels.
I chose Poppy Parade card stock over Real Red because of the (unfortunately retired) Peaceful Poppies Designer Series Paper which offers so many patterns and so much fun.
My card is a wee bit different from most tri-fold cards in that it offers a full size panel on the right side with room for a longer message. The template below is with many thanks to Sandy Allnock. http://sandyallnock.com
TIP: On the back side of the folded card I attached 3-1/2″ x 2″ piece of Poppy Parade card stock over the first vertical scored fold (2″) to keep that middle section from folding. It is right behind the Happy Birthday greeting layer.
DSP Layers
- DSP (Designer Series Paper) pieces are
- 1-3/4″ wide x 5-1/4″ for the long pieces (left and right larger folded areas
- 1-3/4″ wide x 1-1/4″ for upper and lower areas
- 1-3/4″ wide x 2-1/4″ for center areas
- accent pieces on bottom: 1/2″ x 1-3/4″ over the poppy patterned DSP and 1/2″ x 3-3/4″
Because I now own the brand spanking new (available to customers on September 1st!!) Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine, this card was a breeze to make. There are still lots of little details in creating the card but the die cuts were a giant step above the retired Big Shot machine. The ‘hanging chads’, those little pieces you usually have to poke out, just fell out of the die cut image. And I only had to roll the die through the machine once……in one direction. YES!!!!!
TIPS:
- Because of the multiple folds, do not use Stampin’ Dimensionals to attach layers because of added thickness inside an envelope.
- Firmly crease the score lines as shown in the images of the finished card. Use a Bone Folder to enhance the crease.
I wanted to honor Auntie’s birthday achievement so I placed the ‘1’, ‘0’, ‘2’ inside three die cut pieces. Then I added some Red Rhinestone Basic Jewels surrounding each numeral.
