In light of all that’s going on in our country (U.S.A.) I had an epiphany about a card I wanted to make using the recently retired Puzzle Pieces Thinlits. Then add the opportunity of having my 11 year old grandson, Landen, spend the night with me a few days ago. We played Quirkle, prepared crepe batter and then started a crafting project that he caught onto right away: I asked him to pick out any sixteen sheets of Stampin’ Up! card stock from my paper sorter. Next was trimming each sheet to approximately 4″ x 4″ so Landen could die cut them for our project.
On the lower right side of the table you can see the 4-1/4″ x 4-1/4″ sheets of Basic Black card stock which we are slowly and “sticky-ly” covering with puzzle pieces. Each piece of this card stock will eventually hold one puzzle piece of each color of card stock.
Here are all the main layers of our card. As you can see, they lay on the Basic Black background rather randomly. All got trimmed up so the four sides were as balanced as possible, ready to be placed on the next layer, the card front.
Landen and I assembled the first two horizontal rows of puzzle pieces together, before bedtime for both of us. He couldn’t quite keep the Multipurpose Liquid Glue, aka Tombow, off of his fingers, making for a frequently sticky mess. Soap and hand sanitizer to the rescue .
While we were stamping we were trying to come up with a greeting expressing the card’s goal: diversity. Basically Black Lives Matter. It was the follow morning when our greeting came to me:
No matter the color
we all fit together.
Landen had returned home by this time and I texted him with my thought. His response: I. LOVE. IT. What a fun, thoughtful eleven year old.
Also used to create this card: the Stitched Rectangle Dies. I typed the greeting on my computer, found the proper font for it and then printed out sixteen greeting on Whisper White card stock. The greeting were then die cut using the Stitched Rectangle Dies. They were added to the card front using three Mini Dimensionals for each. Inside the card I added a 4″ x 5-1/4″ piece of Whisper White card stock and glued on two more puzzle pieces, a light and a darker.
I hope this card shares the thought I want to convey: All. Lives. Matter.
