I have a fun friend and we have fun times and I just made him a fun card for his sixtieth birthday. We left this fun friend in California just over three years ago but the friendship (and weather/neighborhood watch reporter) has remained in our lives. His 60th birthday is at the end of this week so this morning I made his card and got it in mailbox before today’s mail delivery.
We moved to Boise Idaho from the Sierra Nevada Mountains of northern and western California, near Yosemite National Park, in the winter of 2019. Very little snow that year! If you listen to the news you’ll know that California (along with many other areas) has been slammed with inches and feet and more feet of snow this winter. I wanted my card to reflect the weather! So I decided to use my pretty much unused Enjoy the Journey Designer Series Paper as the focus for Gregory’s card.

This is a surprisingly easy card to make. You can call it a Tall Tri-Fold Card or a “Z” Fold Card. My card base was Garden Green, plus part of the mountainous sheet of the Enjoy the Journey Designer Series Paper and a bit of Basic White card stock.
- Garden Green Card Stock: 9 3/4″ wide x 6-1/2″ high (right side) x 2″ high (left side), scored every 3-1/4″
- Designer Series Paper (DSP) just a hair under 3-1/4″ wide.
- Basic White card stock: 3-1/4″ wide
- Each DSP strip is 3-1/4″ wide and a maximum of 6-1/2″ tall. Lay each piece over its proper panel, mark cutting line with a pencil and then cut as appropriate and attach to the panel using liquid glue (or, obviously, the adhesive of your choice).
- Small piece of Gold Foil: Rub with an Embossing Buddy. Stamp greeting using VersaMark ink. Sprinkle with Black Emboss Powder. Shake off excess. Heat gently with Heat Tool until shiny and set. Fussy cut with Paper Snips cutting carefully around the ‘y’. Tuck all of the greeting except the ‘y’ between the Garden Green and DSP layers using a gentle bit of ‘green (liquid) glue’.
- Stamp your greeting, using Garden Green ink on the Basic White panel. After I had the panel attached I thought it needed a touch of something and decided a pair of pine trees (Gregory does live in the forest!) would do the trick to add that bit of balance.
