MONOGRAM LETTER ‘B’ OR…….WHAT I’VE BEEN UP TO THE LAST SEVERAL DAYS

I’ve been wanting to make a decorated monogram letter “B” for months!  I finally remembered to stop at the *M* store while in ‘civilization’, i.e. the San Francisco Bay Area last week.  The nearest big box craft stores to me are about 80 miles away but the one in Dublin CA, about 120 miles away, is much more convenient.

I knew exactly what I wanted to do with my letter, or at least what Designer Series Paper I wanted to use:  Back to Black.

Monogram Letter 'B'
Blythe’s “B”, decorated with the Flower Patch Photopolymer stamp set.

It was really pretty easy to do although I did set it aside for a few days, contemplating what type of flowers I’d use and what the placement would be.

The first thing I did was to lay the letter, face down,  on the designer paper so that the design I wanted would show on the front of the letter!  Then I traced lightly with a pencil and cut out accordingly.  Then I attached it to the 1/2″ wooden letter with Tombow Anywhere Liquid Glue.  I used Sanding Blocks, an emery board and a ‘guy’s file tool’ to remove the excess paper.

I thought I might sponge the edges with with Craft White ink but I didn’t think the effort was really worth it so I rubbed off a what I could.  You can still see some of the sponging but it doesn’t scream at you!

Then I applied a layer of Modge Podge with a foam paint brush over the Back to Black paper and set it aside to dry.  Today I finally decided to use the Flower Power stamps and the g-r-e-a-t Flower Fair Framelits.  Choosing all of the flowers and layers and accents was kind of a pain but I’m happy with the final outcome.

I used Dimensionals and hot glue to attach the flowers, leaves and Linen thread pieces to the letter.

Bottom Flowers close up
This flower is stamped on Whisper White card stock with Real Red ink for the back flower and then Real Red stamped off for the next layer. The smallest layer is Read Red card stock, embossed using VersaMark and the new Crushed Curry Embossing Powder.

Top flowers, close up
I used Daffodil Delight for the yellow flower and So Saffron for the center embossed layer.  The smaller flower is Real Red again, stamped off for the bigger flower and ‘full strength’ for the center accent.  I embossed on a piece of Read Red card stock, again with VersaMark ink and Crushed Curry Embossing Powder.

I also embossed the centers of some of the flowers.  The leaves were stamped with Pear Pizzazz or Mossy Meadow, stamped off, and highlighted with Old Olive or Mossy Meadow not stamped off.

This is one of those projects that does require the awesome Big Shot, an indispensable tool in my stampin’ studio.  And those fun Flower Fair Framelits.  For some of the flowers it is a bit tedious to get the framelit lined up correctly, but it’s definitely worth the hassle.  I’ll be having more of these Monogram letters to show you, but not until next week.  (shhhhhhhh, they’re gifts)

Thanks for stopping by today.  I know I’m late in posting.  I’m just running behind the ball these days (it’s hot) but I’ll get there.  I look forward to seeing you again tomorrow.  I hope you’re all home safely in you own abodes after the long weekend.
