We Need to Celebrate This

Family members planned a surprise birthday party for my sister-in-law on Saturday.  Her birthday isn’t until mid-January so you know it was a big surprise!  Plus the birthday-girl does NOT like attention drawn to her.  Ooops.  So sad.  One is only 70 (almost) once though and she deserved being celebrated.

I got this card in a swap about a year ago (I have no idea who made it unfortunately) and knew that some day it would be the perfect card for someone in my family.  Of course I didn’t take a photo before I adapted it.  I’ll point that out in a bit.

I’m sharing the progress of the card in reverse order, from envelope to card.  Since the card is rather oversized I had to make an oversized envelope for it……..with lots of numbers for the oversized birthday celebration.  And since it’s for a big birthday I used the number images from the Broadway Bound Specialty Designer Series Paper pack.

I used the Envelope Punch Board and a 10-3/4″ square piece of Designer Series Paper.

The envelope is a tad large but better that than too small.

Here’s peek #1, finally, of the card. The ‘hooray’ belly-band keeps it closed. I added a bit of Wink of Stella to the HOORAY letters.

Peek #2.   This over-large sentiment says it all: Heck YES we need to celebrate this!

The full card.  Stretched out, this card measures 31″ x 5-1/2″.   And on the original card, where you see the birthday cakes and candles there were beer steins and the words Party Time.  Very cool for a guy.  I changed out the Designer Series Paper to the (sneak peek) 2019 Sale-a-Bration Botanical Butterfly Designer Series Paper (available as a Sale-a-Bration reward on January 3, 2019).  The cake and candles are from another new set, Piece of Cake from the 2019 Occasions Catalog, also going live on January 3, 2019.  This stamp set is available with a coordinating Cake Builder Punch as a bundle.

There are 35 candles surrounding each Happy Birthday cake. They were stamped on Vellum card stock and then colored on the backside using various Stampin’ Blends.  Usually you can see any adhesive that’s used to hold vellum in place but I put very thin lines of Tombow Adhesive behind two candles on each little candle grouping and it doesn’t show at all.

Total number of candles: 70.  Happy Birthday.  And heck yes we need to celebrate this!

I had a bunch of fun morphing this from a guy/beer card to a gal/birthday cake card.  We really did need to celebrate this event.

And here’s the surprised birthday (actually it’s on January 15th) girl.

The guy who seats people conned Mary and their dining partners into coming ‘upstairs’ to see and be seated in the newly redecorated dining room since “all tables were full” downstairs.

What an array of guests!  The party was a total winner and Mary was stunned and thrilled.  Her hubby and daughter pulled it off without blowing the secret.
