MACARON VS. MACAROON – CONFUSION WITH ONE OF STAMPIN’ UP!’S NEW IN-COLORS FOR 2015-2017

Have you come upon Stampin’ Up!’s 2015-2017 In Colors yet? Somewhere?  I know……not here!

But here’s a hint at my topic for today:  The new In Color, Mint Macaron.  Yes, macarOn.

Mint Macaron, 2015-2017 SU! In Color

French MacaronThese are French macarons.  One ‘o’.

Italian Macaroons
And these are Italian macaroons. TWO ‘o’s.

Hmmmm.  Macaron is the new color.  Is that a typo?  Has Stampin’ Up! gone careless?  It makes you wonder since macaron is a new word to most of us in the U.S.   We just sort of automatically think it must be macaroon.  Well…………

One letter makes a huge difference between these two confectionery treats.

French Macaron
3 large egg whites
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
5 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2/3 cup almond meal

Italian Macaroon
3 large egg whites
1/2 cup sugar
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 14-ounce package sweetened shredded coconut

Both the macaron and the macaroon have fairly similar bases, but substitute almond flour for shredded coconut, add some salt and you quickly go from PARIS to MILAN.

Can you guess what I’ll be doing when I get home?  No, I’m not home right now…..I’m in Dublin CA for a few days, babysitting, getting a haircut and going to a downline meeting.  You’re right I think!!  Making some macarons and some macaroons.  And I’ll be pulling the new In Colors out of the pre-order box that was delivered while I’ve been gone.

Have a great Wednesday and thanks for stopping by today.
